I'm a complete sucker for romantic comedies! I grew up watching these rom-coms since the early 2000s. I was-and-still-am: OBSESSED.
They're fun, easy to catch on, and most of all — they're bubbly! I suppose that my personality's a little like that which is why this genre greatly resonates with me. In the Filipino culture, love and romance are a huge deal. Our movies and music are mostly centred around romance, dreams, and family. I grew up surrounded by this notion of romance which may have influenced me to become a hopeless romantic.
There’s this Filipino term called “kilig” which basically relates to the saying of feeling like there are butterflies in their stomach’ once something sweet happens to them. Without fail, Filipino rom-coms would incorporate that ‘kilig’-factor into the plots (however cheesy it may be). Growing up watching those, I suppose it has made me develop a yearning for the cutesy romance portrayed in romantic comedies. |
